A 75-year-old woman riding in a vehicle that crashed just north of the Rio Grande Valley has died, and wet roads are being blamed.

State troopers identified the victim as Beatriz Alicia Garza of Weslaco, who died on impact.

The wreck occurred at about 12:30 p.m. Sunday on the southbound lanes of Highway 77 just three miles south of Sarita. Garza was riding in a Dodge pickup truck heading south when it went into a side skid and struck a tree with its right passenger side.

Investigators say the unidentified driver, a 74-year-old man from Donna, lost control of the truck due to the wet conditions, and crashed. The driver was taken to a hospital in Corpus Christi and was last listed in critical condition.

Texas Department of Public Safety state troopers are investigating the deadly incident.
