One toddler is dead and four people are injured in a rollover crash in Kaufman County on Sunday.

A family of two adults and three children driving a 2003 Nissan Xterra SUV was driving back from a family gathering when the accident happened on State Highway 274, about a mile from FM 148.

According to Texas Department of Public Safety, the group was traveling south on the highway when the vehicle crossed into the northbound lane and rolled over at about 1:45 a.m.

One-year-old Rey Salinas of Kemp and two adults were transported to Parkland Memorial Hospital, where the boy died.

Two other children, ages 4 and 7, were taken to Children’s Medical Center of Dallas.

The driver and three surviving passengers are listed with non-life threatening injuries.

DPS said all five victims were restrained properly with seat belts and car seats. No further information as to the cause of the accident was released but police believe alcohol is not a factor.

The driver has not been charged.
