A motorcyclist died when he collided with a pickup truck Thursday afternoon in Waco.

The crash occurred when Robert Charles Taplin III, 20, of Waco, slammed into the pickup near the intersection of North New Road and Watt Avenue just before 3 p.m.

Taplin was riding a 2006 Suzuki motorcycle when he crashed into the side of a Ford F-250 pickup that pulled onto New Road from the parking lot of the Gift Horse store.

Police said the motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead at the scene by McLennan County Justice of the Peace Pete Peterson.

The pickup driver, an 18-year-old woman, was not injured.

Officials said the speed at which Taplin was traveling may have been a factor in the accident.
