Veteran KLBJ radio reporter Barbara McCarley has died Wednesday, a day after she was involved in a three-vehicle collision in Austin.

McCarley covered road closures on Monday before ex-Navy SEAL Chris Kyle’s procession. The next morning, another driver struck her vehicle near the intersection of 2222 and Mesa Drive and she was seriously hurt.

The accident happened when a westbound green sedan lost control and crossed into the oncoming lanes, crashing into the small KLBJ Toyota Scion driven by McCarley.

A third vehicle was involved. The other motorists did not have serious injuries.

Barbara was rushed to the hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries and died Wednesday morning.

Barbara, or Barb as she was known, spent nearly 15 years covering Austin news for KLBJ.

She covered countless breaking news events, including the wildfires at Steiner Ranch and in Bastrop, but most recently she was on the city beat.

Austin police say the roads were slick and may have been a factor in the crash. There will be no charges filed against the driver that caused the fatal accident.

Barbara leaves behind a husband and two children.

Details on her funeral have not yet been released.
