Family and friends were grieving Sunday night after a tragic accident on the Fred Hartman Bridge killed a mother and two children and injured her teenage son.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, it happened around 10pm Saturday on the bridge between La Porte and Baytown.

Officials said Petra Morales was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier northbound on Highway 146 when it stalled in the center lane. Her 15-year-old son got out and began pushing the car to the side of the road. Suddenly, they were struck by a 2006 Chevrolet 3500 truck.

The crash killed Morales and her two younger children — eight-year-old Jermiah Hubana three-year-old Aron Cano.

The teen fractured his collarbone. He was recovering Sunday night at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital and was expected to be released Monday.

The driver of the truck survived the crash. The extent of his injuries was not released, but DPS officials said he has not been charged.

We spoke to Ray Urbano, who lost his son in the accident. Urbano told us he doesn’t blame anyone for the crash, but he’ll never get over this loss.

“All I know is that I wish I had them with me right now. I already miss them so much,” he said. “Thank God I got my family and my friends to support me. I couldn’t do it without them.”
