One man was killed Monday morning after he crashed his car into a light pole in Hurst.

Hurst police Sgt. Craig Teague said the deadly accident happened just before 4:30 a.m. on Mid Cities Boulevard near Grapevine Highway.

The driver, 57-year-old Munir Niazi of Bedford, was pinned inside the vehicle for over an hour before being rescued. The pole nearly split the vehicle from bumper to bumper.

Niazi was flown to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth where he died a few moments later.

Teague said the accident caused a power failure.

The crash remains under investigation.
