A woman is in critical condition and a man is facing charges following a one-vehicle traffic accident early Thursday in San Antonio.

Police said a car driven by Mike Hernandez, 41, was going about 90 mph when he lost control and hit the concrete island on 4300 block of Old Highway 90, then slid across the eastbound lanes and slammed into a telephone pole.

Upon impact, Hernandez and his passenger, Maria Garcia, 43, were both ejected from the vehicle. Neither was wearing a seatbelt.

Prior to the incident that occurred at about 1 a.m., Hernandez and Garcia had been arguing at Los Gallos Bar & Grill in the 400 block of West Old Highway 90 when Hernandez took Garcia to his car and sped off heading west.

The two victims were transported to University Hospital where Garcia was listed in critical condition. Hernandez sustained non-life threatening injuries.

Hernandez is facing an intoxication assault charge.
