A two-vehicle collision Monday in Laredo left one San Antonio truck driver dead.

At about 5:40 a.m., a 2009 Kenworth tractor had been heading north along U.S. 59 near Mile Marker 806 when it suddenly veered onto the southbound lanes and slammed into an oncoming Ford F-350 pickup.

Texas Department of Public Safety identified the tractor driver as 27-year-old Michael Anthony Gomez. He was instantly killed in the wreck.

Investigators are still determining if alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash.

A passenger on the tractor, Robert Ford Hass, 68, was flown to San Antonio Military Medical Center in stable condition with lacerations and broken bones.

The driver of the pickup, Noel Vasquez, 35, from Laredo and his three passengers were rushed to hospitals in Laredo with non-life threatening injuries.
