A Goodfellow Air Force Base airman was killed in a fatal crash in San Angelo Saturday night.

Marine Sgt. Donald Di Pietro, 28, an intelligence instructor from Taylor, Mich. was riding a motorcycle on the 5200 block of Christoval Road heading south when he crashed into a pickup truck shortly before 7:30 p.m.

A San Angelo Police Department accident report said a Chevrolet Cheyenne pickup truck pulled out of Party Ranch bar and was disabled in the roadway with no lights on.

Di Pietro’s motorcycle brakes were applied 79 feet before it fell on its left side and slid 18 more feet before slamming into the pickup, the report said.

The marine was pronounced dead at the scene by Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Judge Kay Longest.

Di Pietro joined the U.S. Marine Corps in June 2005 and had been at Goodfellow since August 2010.

The driver of the truck, identified as Malcolm Guy McBurnett, 65, was charged with intoxication manslaughter. He was booked into the Tom Green County Jail with a $75,000 bond.
