A Monday evening accident left a teacher injured after she was struck by a vehicle during a walk.

Mara Richards, a Durant eighth-grade, was walking with a friend near the corner of 12th Avenue and Locust Street when she was hit by a vehicle.

Police responded to the accident at 7:37 p.m. together with emergency personnel. Richards was provided first aid by the Firefighters and Bryan County EMS also assisted. She was first brought to the Durant Medical Center of Southeastern Oklahoman and was then transferred to Plano.

According to Durant Middle School Principal Kenny Chaffin, Richards suffered severe injuries and remains in Plano. Chaffin added, “She’s doing remarkably well in my opinion,”

Durant Police Department’s investigation is still on-going.
