A Local Texas Ranger was seriously injured Monday in a motorcycle crash in a remote area of mountain ranges far West Texas.

50-year-old Lt James Scoggins was off-duty and riding a motorcycle with friends in the Chisos Mountains, north of Big Bend.

Scoggins was thrown from his motorcycle when it struck something in the road.

McLennan County Chief Deputy Sheriff Matt Cawthon said Scoggins was rescued by Texas Rangers and transported to El Paso Hospital by helicopter.

Scoggins is scheduled to undergo surgery due to a spinal cord injury.
