Three people are dead and two are injured following a head-on collision in Port Lavaca Monday afternoon.

The accident happened at approximately 1:51 p.m. on state Highway 185 near the Ineos Plant.

Trooper Gerald Bryant, spokesman of the Texas Department of Public Safety said a southbound silver 2003 Honda Pilot crossed the median and struck head-on into an oncoming white Ford King Ranch heavy-duty pickup.

Upon impact, the Honda Pilot burst into flames and came to rest in a ditch.

The pickup overturned on its right side.

The three people in the Honda Pilot were pronounced dead at the scene. The bodies were unrecognizable, but DPS said the vehicle was registered in Port Lavaca. The bodies were taken to the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsies.

The two occupants in the pickup, 76-year-old Lloyd Skalak and 64-year-old Barbara Skalak, both of Seadrift, were rushed to Citizens Medical Center for treatment. Both sustained non-life threatening injuries and were later released.

DPS has yet to release the identities of the three victims as investigation continues on the cause of the deadly wreck.
