A man died in a hospital after crashing his car into a utility pole and was trapped in his burning car Sunday morning in New Braunfels.

The deadly wreck happened shortly before 3:45 am Sunday in the 200 block of S. Seguin Avenue. Larry K. Vodron, 49, of New Braunfels, was heading north when he crossed over the southbound lanes and slammed into a utility box and transformer.

New Braunfels police say the transformer caught fire which set the car ablaze. A New Braunfels Parks Department employee heading to work saw the wreck and rescued Vodron from the burning car and performed CPR until emergency responders arrived.
