A two-vehicle crash in East El Paso early Monday morning left one woman dead and a man critically injured.

Police said that it was approximately 2 a.m. when the collision happened. A red 2006 Hummer H3 travelling south on Zaragoza Road ran through a red light and struck a gray 2011 Honda Accord on Gateway East.

The Hummer flipped several times, ejecting the two occupants, Juana Muniz, 25, and Fernando Rodriguez, 26. Both were not wearing seatbelts. It was undetermined who was driving the vehicle.

Muniz and Rodriguez were taken to University Medical Center where Muniz later died.

Rodriguez remains in serious condition.

The driver of the Honda, Carlos Barragan, 22, was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Speed and alcohol are possible factors in the accident on the part of the occupants of the Hummer, according to police.

Muniz’s Facebook page says she graduated from San Elizario High School in 2006 and was a bartender at Palomino.

Friends said Muniz had a young daughter and was a former Miss San Elizario, who competed in a Miss El Paso pageant.
