The two people who died in a car crash in Denton around 6:30 a.m. Saturday have been identified by the police.

The accident involved a blue Honda Accord heading south on the northbound side of the interstate. Police received 911 calls reporting the car traveling the wrong way and had prepared to try to intercept the car, but the accident happened minutes earlier after the first call.

Denton police spokesman Orlando Hinojosa said the Honda, driven by 25-year-old Juan E De La Cruz Jr. of Illinois, collided head-on with a Toyota Highlander driven by 55-year-old Lynne Morrow of Rhome.

Both De La Cruz and Morrow were pronounced dead at the scene. The collision near FM 2449 exit involved two other vehicles driven by Wanda Sue Carter, 41, and Najwa Francisca Lucre, 33. The drivers were taken to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital and were listed in non-critical condition. They were released Saturday afternoon.

Traffic caused by the wreck blocked the northbound side of the interstate, which was closed for about five hours and was opened at 11a.m.
