A motorcyclist was killed when he crashed his bike and plunged from an elevated roadway on U.S. Route 281 in San Antonio early Friday.

Officer Matt Porter, spokesman of the San Antonio Police Department, said 29-year-old Joshua Kalib Landers was riding a Victory motorcycle heading north on U.S. 281 when it crashed at approximately 12:30 a.m. Friday.

Landers struck a battery in the road, lost control and stumbled over the handlebars near Grayson Road. He was thrown over the side of the elevated highway near the Pearl Brewery and fell about 26 feet to Avenue B below.

Police said Landers, who was not wearing head gear, suffered severe head trauma and died at the scene of the accident.

The fatal incident is still being investigated.
