A driver was killed Sunday afternoon after his car was rear-ended by an off-duty Bexar County sheriff’s deputy on U.S. 90.

Jose Olveda, 57, was heading east of the highway near the Nogalitos Street exit when his car either stalled or was moving very slowly and a deputy’s car struck the back of his vehicle.

The two cars then spun into a concrete median.

Olveda was pinned inside his car and died at the scene of the wreck.

His two passengers were taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police said the deputy was behind another vehicle that suddenly swerved, leaving him no chance to avoid colliding with Olveda’s car.

The deputy was uninjured.
