A Sunday night accident left a Carlsbad man dead after his car collided with a Buick LeSabre eight miles north of San Angelo.

According to a Texas Department of Public Safety news release, the accident happened at around 9:43 p.m. Sunday, when a northbound Toyota Yaris and a southbound Buick LeSabre collided on Farm-to-Market 2288. The Buick veered off the road in a curve and hit the left side of the Toyota.

The driver of the Toyota, 34-year-old San Angelo hospital staff Corinne Lee Gutierrez, was not wearing her seat belt at the time of the accident and was brought to San Angelo Community Medical Center. The release said her condition was listed stable as of 3:30 p.m. Monday.

The Buick was driven by 26-year-old Carlsbad stocker Jerry Lee Martinez. He was declared dead at the scene by Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace Eddie Howard at 11:10 p.m. and was brought to Robert Massie Funeral Home in San Angelo.

DPS investigation is on-going and the cause of the crash is still not clear.
