Three students and two adults were injured after a Slaton ISD bus collided with a pickup truck Tuesday afternoon on U.S. 84 near the Posey Gin.
A Slaton ISD bus carrying 13 students from kindergarten through high school was heading east on County Road 3100 and attempting to turn to the northwest on U.S. 84 when the collision occurred at about 4:30 p.m.
The bus slammed onto the side of an eastbound blue Ford pickup, sending the pickup into the median.
The bus driver, David Cruz, 48, of Slaton, told investigators he did not see the pickup.
Investigators, however, believe Cruz failed to yield the right-of-way to the oncoming truck.
Three students on the bus and the two men in the truck were transported by ambulance to a Lubbock hospital. All victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The injured students were identified as Jazelle Flores, 6, Tyler Harry, 8, and Brittany Silvers, 14.
The students received minor injuries and were hospitalized as a precaution.
The two people in the pickup were the driver, Steven Martin, 45, and passenger Daniel Butler, 30, both from Slaton.
DPS cited Cruz with a misdemeanor charge of failure to yield right of way.
