The parents of Rockets radio play-by-play announcer Craig Ackerman have died Tuesday in a single-vehicle accident in Sugar Land.

Police have confirmed that Gerald Ackerman and Bonnie Ackerman, both 66 and from Sugar Land, were involved in a involved in a crash at the intersection of Austin Parkway and Williams Trace at about 1 p.m.

Gerald Ackerman was driving his truck when it left the roadway and slammed into a light pole. No other vehicles were involved in the accident.

Craig Ackerman, 37, has been involved with the Rockets organization for 18 years. He first started with the team as an intern while studying at Houston Baptist University. He was named the voice of the Houston Rockets in 2008.

The team has not yet commented on the accident.
