Monday evening’s motorcycle accident claimed the life of an off-duty Fort Worth fire fighter and critically injured his passenger.

The accident occurred at about 6:45 p.m. along the 300 block of Sycamore School Road.

Police said Lylian “Randy” Berry, Jr., 42, attempted to avoid a car making a left turn ahead of him when his motorcycle slammed into the car near Colfax Lane.

Berry and his passenger, Shymill Murphy, 37, were transported to John Peter Smith Hospital. Berry was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.

Murphy remains in critical condition Monday night.

Berry served four years in the U.S. Air Force before working at the Fort Worth Fire Department for seven years. Berry was assigned to Fire Station 28 on Everman Parkway.
