A driver of a car was pronounced dead on the scene after crashing his car into a tractor-trailer in East Brunswick Township Tuesday evening.

The fatal wreck occurred at about 9:05 p.m. on Route 895, about a half-mile east of Keim Street.

A 2008 Volkswagen was travelling east on Route 895 when it crossed into the westbound lane, smashing into the front bumper of the oncoming 2007 Freightliner tractor-trailer.

Police said the car was pushed westward after impact and started to turn counter-clockwise while the truck continued west. The truck went into the eastbound lane, hitting guide rails on the south side of the road before coming to a stop against the guide rail facing south. The car came to rest in the eastbound lane facing north.

Both vehicles caught fire destroying the whole tractor portion of the truck and most of the car.

The car driver, Zachary C. Teter, 22, of New Ringgold, was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:30 p.m. by Schuylkill County Deputy Coroner Larry Neff, Andreas.

The tractor-trailer driver, Fidelix Iyoha, 59, of Grand Prairie, Texas, complained of arm pain but refused medical treatment, police said.

Investigation continues into the cause of the crash.
