One person is dead following a fiery crash involving a minivan and 18-wheeler tractor trailer in Amherst just before noon on Wednesday.

Amherst resident Deloris M. Gibbons, 66, was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Venture traveling south on FM 37 and stopped at the stop sign. She proceeded into the path of a 2001 Kenworth semi which was traveling west on U.S. 84.

The two vehicles collided and caught fire at the intersection of U.S. 84 and FM 37.

Gibbons was trapped in her vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck.

Texas Department of Public Safety said the semi, which was driven by Robert Ashmore of Fort Worth, had the right of way. Ashmore was not injured.

The two drivers were both wearing their seatbelts.

Officials said alcohol and drugs were not suspected to be a factor in the accident.

Ashmore was not given any testing. No charges have been filed.
