Two Kemp High School students were killed in a two-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon in Kemp.
Three students from Kemp High School were on their way to watch the Dallas Cowboys on television when the fatal crash happened at about 12:40 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of US 175 and FM 1895 in Kaufman County, just miles away from 17-year-old Daryl Gower’s home.
Police said Gower was driving a ’96 Ford Mustang and tried to cross the highway when his vehicle was struck broadside by a 2006 Range Rover, which did not stop in time.
Gower and one of his passengers, Joe Godina, 17, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Another passenger, John Moody, 17, was taken to Texas Medical Center in Tyler by air ambulance in critical condition.
Moody suffered two broken legs, some brain damage, jaw and pelvic injuries and had a lung collapse. Family and friends said he will likely survive, but will have a long recovery ahead of him.
The Range Rover’s driver, 57-year-old Patricia Ehmer, of Allen, was taken to Baylor Dallas with non-life threatening injuries and is in stable condition.
Investigation continues on the deadly accident.
