An 18-month-old girl was hit and killed Tuesday afternoon by a Chapel Hill ISD school bus.

A Chapel Hill ISD school bus driver was dropping off a child on the right side of Pearl Street near the intersection of Gallion Avenue at around 3:30 p.m. when the accident happened.

Patricia Preciado crossed the street to pick up her daughter from the bus and didn’t realize her 18-month-old daughter, Aria, had followed her through the gate.

The bus then moved forward and ran over the toddler.

A witness says they chased bus down, but not before it had traveled about 75 feet.

Chapel Hill officials said the bus was carrying students from Jackson Elementary School, the children ranging from pre-kindergarten to second grade.

The children that remained on the bus that was involved in the accident were quickly removed and transferred to another school bus to leave the scene.

Chapel Hill ISD said the bus driver is also a teacher and has been with the district nearly 25 years.

The driver was given a drug test and has been suspended from driving a school bus pending the results of the test.

DPS, along with Chapel ISD, are investigating the incident.

So far, no charges have been filed.
