A traffic accident on north Highway 281 left a Border Patrol agent and a company truck driver injured Thursday morning.

Agent Javier Garcia out of Freer Border Patrol sector was responding to a call and was driving eastbound on County Road 227 when the crash happened.

Garcia collided with a Tetra company truck at about 9:30 a.m. when he tried to cross over Highway 281, about 15 miles north of Alice, and failed to yield the right of way to oncoming traffic.

The Border Patrol vehicle was pushed by the company truck through a fence toward a ranch property.

Garcia was transported to CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital by HALO-Flight and his injuries are still unknown.

The 30 year-old truck driver, Sigifredo Nunez of Edinburg, had a cut to his head and suffered chest pains. He was taken to Alice hospital by ambulance.

Garcia and Nunez were both wearing their seat belts during the accident.

Trooper Ramirez said citations are pending and DPS continues investigating the incident.
