Fiery Crash Involving 18-wheeler Shuts Down I-35E

The overnight downpour caused several accidents early Wednesday including a fiery crash involving an 18-wheeler on Interstate 35E on the south side of downtown Dallas.

The slippery roads caused the driver of a semi pulling a flatbed trailer to lose control, crash through a guardrail and down an embankment on southbound I-35E at about 4:30 a.m.

The truck then burst into flames after crossing the northbound lanes and smash into a wall.

A Good Samaritan who witnessed the crash pulled the driver out through the window of the cab, and to safety.

“I saw flames coming from underneath the trailer,” Terry Sims told Fox 4 News. “The door wouldn’t open so we had to pull him through the window.”

It is not clear if the driver was hurt, but it was certain the woman saved him from further injury.

I- 35E was shut down for a few hours as authorities clear the scene. There was a delay in reopening the highway as the burned-out cab had to be loaded onto a flatbed wrecker by crane.

As of 7 a.m., the northbound lanes of I-35E have reopened.
