Eastland County Accident Claims Llife of Jessica Marie Rogers

A former Henrietta High School student died in a two-vehicle accident on Interstate 20 west of Eastland Thursday morning.

Jessica Marie Rogers, 20, of Henrietta, had been in Stephenville to visit friends when the fatal accident happened. At about 7:45 a.m., she was driving to Abilene in a 2011 Chevrolet Camaro when her vehicle struck the rear of a 1998 Freightliner, driven by Danny R. Howell of Ranger.

Jessica was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:02 a.m. Investigators believe the cell phone played a role on the cause of the accident.

The Hardin Simmons student was a standout on the volleyball court and in the classroom. Born on September 7, 1991 to Douglas “Doug” Rogers and Margaret “Margie” (Gieb) Easter, Jessica was a graduate of Henrietta High School on May 2010 where she earned the two-time all-state selection and district defensive MVP on the Henrietta volleyball team. At HSU, she won the Cowgirls Spirit Award as a freshman and was one of 52 HSU student athletes named to the American Southwest Conference All-academic Honor Roll last fall.

“She will be missed greatly by not only her team but by so many people who had a chance to experience who she truly was,” said HSU Volleyball Coach Sabrina Bingham.

“She had the biggest heart in the world and truly cared about every person she came in contact with. She was always so energetic, full of life, and passionate about all that she was doing.”

The funeral is arranged at the Davis Funeral Home.
