A woman died after crashing into a tractor-trailer in Live Oak County Tuesday night.

Ashley Nicole Gomez, 29, of Bullard was pronounced dead on the scene of the crash that happened at about 8:30 p.m. on State Highway 72, five miles west of Three Rivers.

Texas Department of Public Safety officials said Gomez was driving a 2003 Pontiac Sunfire heading east on the highway when she veered south off the roadway. She overcorrected and skid sideways across the eastbound lane going to the west lane. She then struck the front quarter panel of a tractor-trailer towing a dump truck.

Gomez was not wearing a seat belt.

Her body was taken to Oak Park Memorial Funeral Home in Beeville.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, Romeo Castaneda of Mission, was not injured.

It was raining during the accident. The speed limit is 70 mph along that stretch of roadway.

DPS continues investigating the crash.
