A five-year-old boy from Pine Bluff was killed when his family’s Chevy Suburban flipped over in the middle of a Texas highway on Monday.

The family from Arkansas was on a vacation when the accident happened. A friend vacationing with the family was driving along the Eastex Freeway (U.S. 59) at Parker Road in Houston when she lost control of the vehicle and swerved into the center divider, then hit a light pole and rolled onto its roof.

Five-year-old Trace Williams had been riding in the back seat when the SUV’s right rear tire blew. He was pinned underneath the wreckage and died. His mother, her two other children, and the driver survived the crash with minor injuries.

The boy and his family left Corpus Christi earlier in the day and were driving home to Arkansas when the fatal accident happened.  The survivors’ injuries are not life threatening according to the police.

It took hours for police to clear the wreckage.
